An Instagram celebrity, hired to promote Snapchat Spectacles, failed to live up to a marketing agreement to be seen wearing the camera sunglasses, according to a lawsuit filed by PR Consulting on Tuesday.
PR Consulting claims that “influencer” Luka Sabbat’s duties had included the creation of “original content for a minimum of four unique posts [one photo and three Stories]” on Instagram, which is owned by Facebook. Specifically, Sabbat was paid to promote Spectacles around Fashion Week in New York, Milan and Paris at the end of September. The marketing firm claims that Sabbat, who has 1.3 million followers on Instagram, only made two Instagram posts.
The lawsuit, filed in New York state court in Manhattan, also states that Sabbat was paid $45,000 with the promise of $15,000 more when the work was completed.
Snapchat did not immediately return request for comment. However, Snapchat is not named as a party in the lawsuit, which TechCrunch embedded on its site.
Snapchat released the second-generation Spectacles in April; the first iteration failed commercially, and the company had to take a $40 million write-off in 2017.
Sabbat is being sued for $90,000 to make up for the alleged breach of contract.
